The Bank stores seeds at -10ºC. Before storage, seeds are desiccated with silica gel (approximately at 12-15% relative humidity), and they are enclosed in glass vials that are flame-sealed, containing silica gel. The hermeticity of the containers (Gómez-Campo, 2006a2006b)  and the low water content secure that the seeds keep their viability for decades (Pérez-García et al. 2007, 2008). Moisture contents of 1-3% (fresh weight basis) have been measured in several crucifers (Pérez-García et al. 2007).

PLANT GERMOPLASM BANK-upm

The in vitro culture collections are kept with periodical subcultures. Cultures are incubated at 25ºC, with 16 h photoperiod.

Thirteen clones of Narcissus cavanillesii  and several of Borderea chouardii are maintained.

The field collection of shrubby leguminosae is located in the demonstration fields of the ETSI Agrónomos of the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid.

PROCESS STAGES
